One familly

ITS WINERIES, ITS WINES, ITS LIFE

Until 1928. Humble beginnings.

The Cañas family was engaged in making and selling traditional young wines made by the carbonic maceration method. These were produced in the Cueva de los Curas, an ancient underground cellar which was part of the area’s landscape.

The wines were transported by Carlos Cañas, Luis Cañas’s father, in carts pulled by mules which crossed the Sierra Cantabria and Vitoria Mountains to the outlying  areas of Bilbao and San Sebastian about 100 miles from Villabuena.

Luis Cañas was born in 1928.
